Summary0000021: QP/M
DescriptionI apologize for posting this here, but the Contact form does not seem to be working.

I am the maintainer/primary author of a popular distribution of Z80 system software (https://github.com/wwarthen/RomWBW). QP/M is one of the OS alternatives included. Thank you for making it available.

Wondered if you are still supporting QP/M? If so, I had a couple questions and a small bug. I don't know if you are maintaining it at this point. If not, feel free to ignore this message. If you are, I have a couple questions and a bug report.

The bug is related to QSTAMP. When I run it on a disk configured for 1024 directory entries, the specific directory entry for TIMDAT.QPM is not right. Specifically the byte offset 15 should contain the number of 128-byte records in the file. Instead, it is set to 0x01. I can edit the entry, change it to 0x80 and everything starts working.

There are two text files in the distribution (QPMCMDS.TXT and QPMUTILS.TXT). Both seem to have escape code sequences imbedded. Is this intended? If so, what type of device do the escape sequences target?

Finally, is there a recommended way to detect QP/M is installed? I am hoping there is a byte sequence in the QDOS or QCP image that can be relied upon.

Thank you,

Wayne Warthen

We provide our archived QP/M software and documentation as a service, so we are happy it is still being accessed. Unfortunately, during a move 20+ years ago, all the source code was lost, so nobody will be able to answer your questions on the operation.

As far as those characters in the TXT files, that could be the bolding sequences for a Kaypro and Xerox display -- but not precisely sure.

I completely understand and thank you for the response. It is unfortunate that the source code was lost. QP/M is excellent software and there are people still using it.

Thanks,

Wayne
